Ashley will take on the 2026 Tough Ruck Marathon for the fourth time, continuing a journey that began during one of the most difficult periods of her life.
Ashley first registered for Tough Ruck in late 2022 after the passing of her father, a Vietnam War veteran, on November 18, 2022. Just one month later, she signed up for her first Tough Ruck. What began as a way to honor her father quickly became something deeper.
Training for the event became part of Ashley’s grieving process, helping her stay focused, grounded, and connected to the values her father represented through his military service. Since then, she has returned to the starting line each year, participating in Tough Ruck in 2023, 2024, and 2025, and preparing again for the challenge in 2026.
For Ashley, the miles represent far more than a physical challenge. They are a way to show appreciation for those who serve and for the families who support them.
“I am rucking because it’s a cause I truly believe in,” she says. “It’s for the families of the men and women who protect our country. Rucking is the least I can do to say thank you.”
Although Ashley participates in the civilian division, service to country is deeply personal for her. In addition to her father’s military service, she has many family members and friends who have served – or who continue to serve – in the Army, Coast Guard, and in public safety roles such as police and fire departments.
Each year that Ashley returns to Tough Ruck, she carries forward both gratitude and remembrance. What started as a way to honor her father has grown into a lasting commitment to the mission of Tough Ruck: remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice and supporting the families they left behind.
For Ashley, every mile is a tribute.
