Tough Ruck Fundraising Playbook

Raise dollars. Honor Warriors. Support my Tough Ruck marathon mission on April 19th, 2026, when I ruck!

Start Here: 15-Minute Setup Checklist

  • Create your team page and your personal fundraising page (photo, a short bio, and your fundraising goal).
  • Tell your “why.” In 2 to 3 sentences: who you’re rucking for and why Tough Ruck matters to you.
  • Make the first gift. Seed the page to show momentum.
  • List your first 25 prospects (family, friends, and coworkers).
  • Share in three places today: distribute via email, share at least one social post, and consider posting on one group/department channel.
  • Ask for a match: see if your employer (or your donors’ employers) offer matching gifts.

Quick Wins (Digital)

  • Email your circle. Keep it personal and specific (template examples included on fundraising page).
  • Weekly progress post. Share miles trained, photos from a training ruck, and a fresh donation ask.
  • Pinned link everywhere. Add your page link to your email signature and social bios.
  • Warm introductions. Ask contacts to introduce you to one person who’ll love this mission.

Local Support & Sponsorships

  • Neighborhood businesses. Ask for a small cash gift or in-kind item (gift cards, coffee, merch) to use as incentives or prizes. Offer a thank you shout-out on your page and social.
  • Workplace allies. Union/association, departments, and veterans/first responder groups,

Fun(d)raising Events (Get-Back Nights & Activities)

  • Restaurant/brewery give-backs. Many venues donate a % of one night’s sales. Pair with a raffle or door prizes.
  • Trivia or bowling night. Sell team slots, add a small entry fee, and offer donated prizes.
  • Gym partnerships. Spin-a-thon, ruck-to-nowhere treadmill miles, or a “pack carry” challenge.
  • Community booster. Veterans posts, Rotary, Lions, Kiwanis, and school teams often host a mini-event if you ask.

Note: Raffles, “squares,” and games of chance are regulated. Check local laws and your organization’s policies before running them. When in doubt, do giveaways (no purchase necessary) with a suggested donation.

New England Winter & Spring Ideas

  • Snow-Shovel Squad. Organize neighbors/teammates to shovel driveways after a storm for donations.
  • Chili or Chowder Cook-Off. Invite entries, sell tasting tickets, and let attendees vote for a donated prize.
  • Bruins/Celtics Watch-Party. Host at a friendly bar; collect suggested donations at the door, run a 50/50 giveaway (see note above).
  • Super Bowl Football Squares. Ask for a suggested donation per square; award prizes at the end of each quarter and at the end of the game.
  • March Madness Bracket Challenge. Ask for a suggested donation per bracket; award a donated prize.
