The line isn’t held by accident. It’s held by warriors like Officer Stephen LaPorta.

On Wednesday, January 7, 2026, amidst the freezing rain on Route 146, Officer LaPorta was doing exactly what he was called to do: protecting a citizen in need. While assisting a stranded motorist in the brutal elements, he was struck and killed in the line of duty.

“In the wake of this tragedy, the bond between first responders and the Tough Ruck community has never been stronger,” said Race Director Sarah Sweeney. Tough Ruck is inviting their community across the globe to join in a virtual

Memorial Tough Ruck for Officer LaPorta this week as he’s laid to rest.

Tough Ruck Memorial Bib honoring Fallen Police Officer Stephen LaPorta. Ruckers are encouraged to download a bib, ruck any distance and tag #toughruck so that photos may be shared with the Officer’s loved ones.

Tough Ruck Nation is providing an immediate grant of $10,000 for critical needs.

“We are incredibly grateful to Tough Ruck for their swift response and unwavering support during this difficult time. The way this community has stepped up for the LaPorta family and the Uxbridge Police Department from the very beginning has been truly amazing. We cannot thank each Tough Rucker enough for their dedication to honoring Officer LaPorta’s memory,” said Lt. Tim Burke and Dispatcher Melanie Blodgett-O’Toole on behalf of the Uxbridge Police Department and the LaPorta Family

Though his time as an officer with the Uxbridge Police Department spanned just over a year, his commitment was absolute. He was a veteran of public safety who didn’t back down from the weather, and he never hesitated to serve his community.

To the family of Officer LaPorta and the members of the Uxbridge Police Department: We stand shoulder-to-shoulder with you. The weight of this loss is heavy, but you do not carry it alone.

This April, as our Ruckers take to the course, Officer LaPorta’s name and his legacy will be carried on our backs and in our hearts.

He held the line.

We will carry the memory.

Forward for the fallen.
