For Andrew Staruk, Tough Ruck is about more than covering 26.2 miles with weight on his back. It’s about purpose, service, and honoring the people who carry far heavier burdens every day.
A Worcester firefighter and U.S. Air Force veteran, Andrew knows what it means to answer the call in demanding environments and to be part of something bigger than yourself. That is a big reason why this year’s challenge means so much to him. On Sunday, April 19, Andrew will ruck the Tough Ruck Marathon in Concord. The very next day, he will line up for the Boston Marathon – taking on back-to-back marathons “The Double Unicorn” not for attention, but because he feels called to do something hard in support of a mission that matters.
Raised in Worcester, Andrew has long viewed Boston as the marathon – a symbol of grit, consistency, and community. But Tough Ruck gives this weekend an even deeper meaning. To him, rucking is a reminder that some people carry weight far heavier than a pack, especially military members, first responders, and families of the fallen. That perspective keeps his training grounded and gives every mile more meaning.
Andrew’s commitment to service extends well beyond race weekend. Publicly, he has also been recognized for his support of fellow first responders and for raising significant funds for causes that help the families of fallen police officers and firefighters.
For Andrew, April 19, 2026 and Marathon Monday are about doing something difficult on purpose and using that effort to honor sacrifice, resilience, and the unbreakable bond shared by those who serve.
